Fiat VS Crypto: Round I Fight!

zeroes and ones vs pieces of paper
According to Coinmarketcap, the total crypto worth of the Top 100 coins right now is:
Total Market Cap: $121,554,389,665

According to Visualcapitalist.com there are:
" In total, there is a total of about $1.5 trillion in U.S. physical currency in circulation, and roughly 80% of this value comes from the 11.5 billion $100 notes that are in circulation"
$15,000,000,000,000

Now let's compare them visually:
All crypto: -----$121,554,389,665
US dollars:   $15,000,000,000,000

How about if we add all other fiat currencies?

Can you now imagine how small is crypto? Can you imagine how many people must invest in it before it becomes something of importance? Let's do math!

Earth population=7.53 billion (2017)
If every person on the planet invests:
$15 000 000 000 000 / 7 530 000 000 = $1992 per human being. This is how much it would cost for the whole crypto market to reach the mighty fiat dollar.
And that is only for USD!

Do you think that if Crypto beats USD by mere numbers, Crypto will eventually win over fiat?
Let me hear your thoughts on this below:

Etherereum Constantinople reward reduction

You are probably wondering what happens on January 16th. Well, here is what to expect:
Ethereum Reward reduction after Jan 16th
Constantinople update will bring reward reduction and some more changes

Constantinople is coming!

  • What will Transaction/confirmation time be?
    • Block time is now ~15 secs. For Proof of Work to do it's job normally, going to less than 15 seconds will create a lot of Uncle blocks, which are cheaper. That is because POW adds some more latency to the block time. This could decrease the reward. For Proof of Stake (when it comes) it might be quicker. Learn more about ETH uncle blocks.
  • Is the block reward reduced after January 16th?
Yes, reward goes from 3 ETH per block to 2 ETH per block. That is 33% less mining profit for the same power consumption - if the price remains the same. If the block time is also decreased (not by much). This can soften the effect which miners will feel as block will cost only 2 ETH, but should come faster.
  • Will the Cost of transaction change?
    • Cost depends on how many transactions there are right now. Constantinople's EIP's are aiming to optimize smart contract interactions, so we should see a decrease in smart contract transaction cost (untill the next Cryptokitties dapp shows up to overload the network and send the price per transaction through the roof).
  • Will the number of transactions/second change?
    • No. There will be the same average Tx per second. However EIP-1024 should optimize state channels (a type of side chains) which can cause a small speed increase.
  • Will Constantinople bring PoS in Ethereum?
  • Is this going to be a Hard fork or a Soft fork?
    • A hard fork. This means there will be a brand new Ethereum blockchain which has all the new upgrades. All current smart contracts on the current chain will be copied on the new chain.
    • The "old" pre-fork ETH will probably have some value initially, but since no development is planned, it should die out.

Here are some more sources of detailed information regarding the upcoming Ethereum Constantinople update:

Did you clean the dust off your rigs?

did you clean the dust off your rigs
A time comes when you got to do what you got to do.

Christmas, New year holidays, time for your loved ones: family, friends and rigs.

Cleaning the dust off your rigs has several benefits:

1. Increases GPU / ASIC / CPU lifespan.
2. Increases the fans lifespan.
3. Lowers the fan speed.
4. Lowers the noise.
5. Lowers the power draw (lower fan speed=lower electric bill).
6. Lowers the chance for component failure or short circuit.
7. When all works fine, you have more time to spent around human beings.

Tools needed:
An air compressor. Second best is leaf blower, third is a can of compressed air. You can also use hard brush or anything usefull to remove the dust, wet micro fiber towel, vacuum cleaner can help too.

General steps:

1. Power off the rig and disconnect it from power.
2. Take it out at an open space outside.
3. Blow the dust out of the heatsink fins.

*If using a compressor:

Drain the air compressor of moisture - you may have to pressurize it for extra draining power. Moisture gets into the tank when you are filling it with warmer air, that typically has more moisture in it. When the air cools down, the moisture pools at the bottom of the tank - there should be a drain there if you spent enough money on your air compressor. (recommendation by skyroket from Reddit)

If not available, use a can of compressed air. If you want to go full cheap, get a brush, scrape the dust off and then blow it away or collect with vacuum cleaner. Be careful with air compressors. If they are set to too high PSI, they can force tha fans to spin too fast and break them. Either adjsut the PSI to a safe amount or apply compressed air from bigger distance first, so you can find the best distance for your fan. Hold the fans with your hand to avoid spinning them too fast. If you have moist climate, the dust usually forms a black, sticky substance. You can use slightly moist cloth (I recommend a microfiber towel) to clean the sticky dust.

Try not to blow the dust further into the heatsink fins. Blow it OUT. (recommendation by skyroket from Reddit)

Happy holidays and may the dust stay away from you!

IoT mining with uPlexa

uPlexa Iot coin
IoT coin mining

IoT device mining and global decentralization

Imagine a network of 8.4 billion IoT devices, spread worldwide. Combine this decentralization with the most algorithm: Cryptonight, modified to improve further the IoT mining capabilities of all smart TVs, tablets, smart phones, laptops, computers, smart fridges, smart coffee makers, Android TV boxes and any future device we have not seen yet. All these devices sit idle for hours and we still own them and pay money for the electricity they use. And they.. sit idle. uPlexa will change that by implementing IoT device mining.

how uPlexa mining works
How uPlexa's network works

e-Commerce

Now imagine you open your own online shop where customers pay with uPlexa coins for services and goods. Or they can work or mine for UPX coins needed to purchase a certain service.
How about owning an online, decentralized shop? The uPlexa whitepaper has this explained in detail, for those who like the details. As a tip, I will only mention this: Your shop remains free until you start making a real profit out of it. Ever heard of anything like this? On top of that they have developed their own NZCM algorithm for extremely low transaction fees.

Paying for services anonymously

Due to the Cryptonight algorithm's anonymous nature, you can pay for services as web hosting, Internet provider services, e-mail hosting, phone bills, VPN, etc. And yes, all this can be anonymous thanks to uPlexa. This will ensure the companies will not be selling your identity. You will not be charged differently based on what country you live in (so called tourist fee), In case one of your service providers is hacked (as often happens lately) you will not have a reason to worry. All hackers will get is that someone payed something to someone else.

uPlexa team recently went live (a few days ago) and has already filled up their Discord server with a lot of participants. This is their quickest source of information on the project. For uPlexa whitepaper, coin distribution, mining specifics, visit the website.

Also the vlogger IMineBlocks reviewed it in his video, which is a very good sign:

New Masternode coin on the rise: XDNA

As with most things in life, electricity is not free. Mining is mostly using energy to solve complex calculations, which prove the transactions happened. Well, there is another, more efficient and Eco-friendly way - Masternodes. One of the most advanced coins out there which utilizes Masternodes and their low power usage is XDNA.

XDNA - The Masternode coin

XDNA Masternodes
XDNA logo

Mining XDNA coin

It has it's own Proof of Work algorithm called HEX. So you can GPU mine it. It consists of 16 different algos, chained together for maximum ASIC resistance. After the project matures enough, the mining will stop and all transactions will run through secure Masternodes.

They contributed with another XDNA specific invention: variable reward they call BitGun. Basically, it takes care of the miners to receive the same reward regardless of the difficulty spikes or drops.
So no matter how many miners jump on it, the rewards will be steady. Other coins like Etherium already took a huge hit from variyng difficulty. This cannot happen with XDNA.

XDNA masternode
Main XDNA coin features

Their Bitcointalk announce thread provides links to miners and pools you can use.

Being part of the XDNA Masternode network

After about 3 years of mining, the network will have many nodes which earn income to their owners, while moving transactions. This will happen for a very small price and with negligible power footprint. With today's Bitcoin 0.5% of total global power usage, energy efficiency will become more and more important. XDNA does not require thousands of dollars for ASIC machines or GPU farms. Running a node is simple enough. It allows also small players to join for as low as 1000 XDNA coins. This will give them 3% of global block reward. Other masternodes worth 3000 and 5000 for 9 and 15% reward:

XDNA required light masternode

This is called T.N.T and stands for triple node technology. It's aim is to avoid pyramid schemes. This is another in house invented tech. You can easily calculate the reward using the Masternode calculator.

Exchanges:

The coin is still young but the joint efforts of the team allowed it to be added to two exchanges (at the time of the writing, there was a third one coming soon). Currently it is listed on:
2. Crypto-Bridge (decentralized)

Hex algo miner

How to earn XDNA coins and help secure the network?

PoW mining the Hex algo at a pool is the first option. While mining is becoming thing of the past with each day, you might consider buying a masternode. Since the coin is still young, the Light node
only costs 1000 XDNA. If you are broke, you can still get XDNA. Just follow their Discord, Bitcointalk and take part in their bounty program. It's very generous, so you can make some coins for free.

The Community is alive and chat has always something interesting going on. Apart from that, the team has also created a charity organization for helping people in tough situations. Since it is in the blockchain, it is wide open for public.

Why should I invest in XDNA now?

The current market is perfect for investing. Low prices, everybody is uncertain. The worst time would be when everything booms and everybody is buying for the hype of it. Currently the XDNA coin is still minable, a light node was worth about a $100 at the time of the writing. All other masternode coins usually start at around $1000. There are still an active bounties which allw you to gain enough XDNA coins for free. Just invest some time and it will pay out.

Latest XDNA news:

1. BitGun levels will be adjusted:
Block reward values will be gradually decreased, while the reward portion for the masternodes will be increased.  A fork will induce the lowering of rewards at all Bitgun levels by 10% per month during a period of 24 months. By the end of this period, the reward on the first level will be 0.35 XDNA, while the 15 lvl reward will become 9.66 XDNA. This measure is aimed at raising the value of the coin, since it will gradually become harder and harder to obtain.

CPU mining (is still alive!)

Proof of work mining requires computational power. There are ASIC miners, which are very tightly specialized in one algorithm, there are GPU miners which are very flexible and capable in many algos, there is even HDD mining. However, CPU mining is the most universal type of mining. Here are some of the most popular CPU minable methods:

1. JSEcoin - CPU only, web minable coin via browser.

monetize web content with mining
A CPU only, web minable coin
You can mine it via JSEcoin's website. No special miner or knowledge required. I recommend instead of a new tab, opening a separate browser window for best results. It is very light miner and  you will not notice it while using your computer. Just press "start mining" and it will adjust automatically according to your use. You can also mine at your work computer ;) .
If you own websites, you can integrate the miner in them. Your visitors will be asked if they wish to contribute to your website by mining JSEcoins for it. That way, without hanging ugly banners all over it, you can monetize your content.

2. uPlexa - the IoT coin

CPU minable
Mine with IoT

There are 8.4 billion IoT devices around the world. more than 50% of the time are not used for anything. Since they are spread all over the world already, mining vua IoT devices will create the most decentralized network ever. Combining IoT hashrate of billions of devices will create a massive computational power for transactions. It uses it's own modified version of the most secure protocol so far: Cryptonight. It is currently CPU only minable and with a low difficulty. To see the latest updates (daily!) I suggest that you join their chatty uPlexa's Discord. Alternatively, you can buy some on Stex, while the price is still affordable.

3. Coin Imp - Monero CPU mining via browser.

CPU mining Webchain
web mine Monero and Webchain
Just start your browser, login and push start mining Monero. Coins will be payed out to your Monero address once they reach 0.1 Monero. You can also CPU mine Webchain coin. For best results check your processor's L3 cache and divide that number by two. This will give you the number of cores you can use for optimal Monero mining. The CoinImp website also allows you to lower your CPU usage by as much as you like. This will allow you to use your computer as you wish while mining. You can also mine from your computer at work as it does not require any software download.

How to undervolt Nvidia (GTX 1060, 1070, 1080Ti, RTX 2060, 2080)

AMD video cards are not easy, but they are very tweakable. You can fiddle with their vBIOS, overclock, undervolt, fine tune them for mining.

Nvidia video cards are better at saving power. Which is very important in a critical situations with the current market dip. Many people pay for electricity each month out of crypto earnings.
I tought Nvidia cards are much less tweakable, but I was wrong. Here is how I managed to beat my previous attempt:

Preparation for Nvidia overclock optimization for mining:

1.Disable all all other tools you were using up to now. Disable them from startup to avoid interference. You may want to write down your current power draw if you have a power meter (for comparison after tweaking).
2. Download Nvidia Inspector and Nvidia Profile Inspector
3. Run Nvidia Profile Inspector and find:

Nvidia optimizations
   - CUDA - Force P2 State - set it to OFF
   - Power management mode - Prefer maximum performance

The first one disables forced P2 (power) state, in which the GPU tries to save electricity by slowing itself down a bit. The second one has similar use. This way the GPU will enter maximum speed mode, without ANY throttling. Don't worry, we'll tune it as we like (for better mining).

Nvidia Overclocking And Undervolting

Plan:
 1. undervolt GPU (to achieve maximum power savings).
 2. overclock GPU (to achieve maximum hashing speed).
 3. set fan speed to a value, which keeps GPU temperature around 60 Celsius (to achive maximum GPU lifespan).

The first time I tried to use Nvidia Inspector то undervolt Nvidia, I could not see why it is better than MSI Afterburner.
Someone might like it, some might not, but it is the only software which can downvolt a Nvidia GPU (except playing around with Nvidia SMI console).

Nvidia undervolt
Undervolting Nvidia

Instead of running the GUI and sliding the sliders, we're going to create an empty .txt file in the same folder where nvidiainspector.exe is. Why you might ask? Because GUI application cannot adjust voltage. And undervolting is the main power saver! Copy and paste this in your txt file:

SET VOLT=655000
SET MEMORY=500
SET CORE=100
SET GPU0=-lockVoltagePoint:0,655000 -setBaseClockOffset:0,0,100 -setMemoryClockOffset:0,0,110 -setTempTarget:0,0,65
SET GPU1=-lockVoltagePoint:1,655000 -setBaseClockOffset:1,0,100 -setMemoryClockOffset:1,0,110 -setTempTarget:1,0,65
SET GPU2=-lockVoltagePoint:2,655000 -setBaseClockOffset:2,0,100 -setMemoryClockOffset:2,0,110 -setTempTarget:2,0,65 -setFanSpeed:2,48
SET GPU3=-lockVoltagePoint:3,655000 -setBaseClockOffset:3,0,100 -setMemoryClockOffset:3,0,110 -setTempTarget:3,0,65
SET GPU4=-lockVoltagePoint:4,650000 -setBaseClockOffset:4,0,100 -setMemoryClockOffset:4,0,110 -setTempTarget:4,0,65 -setFanSpeed:4,60
SET GPU5=-lockVoltagePoint:5,655000 -setBaseClockOffset:5,0,100 -setMemoryClockOffset:5,0,110 -setTempTarget:5,0,65

nvidiaInspector.exe %GPU0% %GPU1% %GPU2% %GPU3% %GPU4% %GPU5%

Core Voltage (Nvidia GPU undervolting)

As you may have already seen, In all overclocking tools, the Nvidia Core voltage is greyed out and cannot be decreased, only increased. With stock settings, default Vcore reaches 1.2V. Here comes lockVoltagePoint:0,655000  - the main culprit in this article. It forces GPU to work at 0.655 volts which is 0.125 Volts less than my previous undervolting attempt with MSI AB (which was already low!). The lowest possible value with Nvidia 10 Series is 0.650V. If your GPUs work stable at that low - use it!

GPU Core overclock

setBaseClockOffset overclocks the GPU core. GPU core clock should be above 1100Mhz for stable hashing. If it is lower, increase it by adding extra 10-20Mhz. For mining Etherium or other memory intensive algos, keep core clock around 1100Mhz (*1080 might need this a bit higher to be stable). For Cryptonight or Equihash or other core clock intensive algos, keep core clock higher (the higher, the better, depends on GPU quality). You can usualy get +150Mhz stable on any VGA card, and +200Mhz on the good ones. We can monitor real time clocks and voltages in HWinfo or Aida64 or GPU-Z.

Nvidia Memory overclock

-setMemoryClockOffset overclocks the memory. The higher, the better. Each 10 series Nvidia GPU should handle atleast +500Mhz Mem clock.

If overclock is unstable, you can increase a bit the voltage (very slightly). Now save the file and rename the .txt to .bat. Then run the bat file. It will set the values inside to each GPU mentioned.

We can use these base values to fine-tune our GPUs.
Set memory to max stable clock, increasing every 15 min with 100Mhz, untill you reach the promised land. After it starts crashing, decrease the last clock with 50Mhz and enjoy a stable rig.
Usually Hynix memory overclocks up to 400-550Mhz, Micron - 500-700Mhz, Samsung - 650-850Mhz.
Core clock max is between +150 and +230Mhz. Beyond that you need water cooling or it will be unstable.

If you want to increase the number of GPUs, add more lines and add another %GPU*%  on the last line. To decrease the number of GPUs according to your rig, delete items from last line.

GPU temperatures

If the internally controlled fan speed is not enough, you can set the parameter: -setFanSpeed:2,48, where 2 is the number of the GPU, 48 is the % speed of it's fan. You can also use external tool for controlling the fans. My personal belief is that max temp should be limited to 65C. While optimal temp is anything below 60C.

*Remember, it's not the hashrate which gives you coins, it's the correctly submitted number of shares. Overclocking too much can decrease the number of mined shares. Sometimes steping down with 20Mhz can Increase the profit.

Undervolting and overclocking result:

After using this method, my 6 Nvidia 1060 6GB GPU rig went down from 517W (already optimized for best hashing and lowest power consumption) to 475W! Temps went down with 5 degrees Celsius.
All this at the same hashrate plus a bonus - a more stable rig and less hassle with MSI AB's bad multi GPU interface!

*Hint: you can add the .bat file to Task Manager and set it to run every 30 min since first boot. This will ensure that badly behaving cards will be less likely to lose their settings.

Please share your overclocking achievements in the comments below!

I don't like ads so I disabled them in this blog. However if you want to support further experiments, please contribute ETH 0x288677B90E4F22737c2bCC0ae87e6FFE2d63007E

How to optimize Nvidia 1060, 1070 and 1080 power usage, using MSI AB

It all varies from card to card, as not all gpus were created equal. However if you compare before and after power usage (Watt meter only! Software measuring is not correct!):
  1. Set core clock to +150Mhz, Mem clock to + whatever your hardware allows (at least +500Mhz). This is your basic overclock good enough for almost any coin. Set TDP to your desired value - 50% for best power usage and less heat, 100% or more for highest hashrate and heat/noise. Optimal setting is between 50% and 75%.
  2. Then open MSIAB, click settings, put a check on the "voltage monitoring" check box and fire up your software miner.
  3. Write down total rig power usage, on your WATT meter and current GPU core voltage value.
  4. Click on the 3 bars in front of the core clock slider in MSIAB.
  5. Select the 1000miliVolt dot and move it upwards until it reaches 2140Mhz.
  6. Put the curve window away (but keep it open) so you can see MSIAB main window. Then lower the  core clock to -400Mhz.
  7. Return to voltage curve window, select first dot on the left and raise it to 1596Mhz (any value lower than 1600Mhz).
  8. Watch the main window's Vcore value of 1050mV(default) and click Apply (check symbol).
  9. The card should downvolt itself from 1050mV to 800mV. The GPU temperature will drop with at least 5 degrees C (if fan speed is constant).
- Note: lower or increase GPU TDP, otherwise this limit might not work on TDP 100% for example.
Experimenting with the 1000mV dot value by using the dots can give even better results.
If you have 1070 or 1080, please share your results!!

New nVidia PCI IDs arrived

There are new PCI.IDS for Nvidia

New Nvidia GPU 1180 series

A PCI ID is the thing that identifies a piece of hardware in our PCs. Which later allows the driver to recognize this part. So the news is that these IDs are now registered to Nvidia.

You can find all of them at the bottom here.

They were updated on July 21. Here is which Vendor/model IDs were added:

1e07 GV102
1e3c GV102GL
1e87 GV104 [GeForce GTX 1180]
1eab GV104M

GL is a  Quadro and M means mobile GPU version

Do you think the GV102 will be a 1160 or a1170 or something else?

The most power efficient GPU?

There was always a fight between the two camps - intel vs AMD, AMD vs Nvidia. When mining, nobody cares about this. All miners want is the best hashrate and most power efficient GPU.

See below how the Team Green and Team Red perform on EThash algo:

Best Hashrate per Watt ratio GPUs

Nvidia:

Model - Watts - hashrate = efficiency
---------------------------------------------
1050Ti - 50W - 15mhs = 0.3 Mh/W
1060 - 60W - 25mhs = 0.41 Mh/W
1070 - 86W- 32mhs = 0.37 Mh/W
1070Ti - 100W - 34mh/s = 0.33 Mh/W
*1080 - 160W - 54mh/s = 0.33 Mh/W
*1080Ti - 170W - 56mh/s = 0.32 Mh/W

  2080 - 145W - 41mh/s = 0.28 Mh/W

*(with the ethlargement pill)

Don't believe? Learn how to undervolt Nvidia

AMD:

Model - Watts - hashrate = efficiency
---------------------------------------------
RX470 - 105W- 26Mhs = 0.24 Mh/W
Rx480 - 120W - 29Mhs = 0.24 Mh/W
RX570 - 90W - 30mhs = 0.33 Mh/W
Rx580 - 95W - 31mhs = 0.32 Mh/W
Vega56 -170W - 46mhs = 0.27 Mh/W
Vega64 - 200W - 48mhs = 0.24 Mh/W

** All video cards are overclocked, undervolted and optimized for best stable hashrate while keeping the cost and temperatures as low as possible for 24/7 mining!
*** The results are calculated for cards using Samsung memory (Nvidia only!). This is the best case scenario -  Second best is for Micron, Hynix has a memory controller limit, which limits the maximum load to around 90%, preventing the card to go to full speed during mining. During gaming it works normally.

*** All power values should be measured with a watt meter. Software meters are not correct.
All of the above values are approximate. There are too many variables which can influence the numbers. However the biggest difference should be no more than 4Mh/s:

  1. Is the GPU tuned for best power efficiency?
